A little bit about the man behind the
business.
Ames Doty, owner and operator of Stonedom's Minerals, is a native of
Austin, Texas and was born into the world of gems, minerals,
and fossils. In the 1950's and 60's he was
responsible for opening many of the most renowned mineral
pockets throughout Arizona. As a child, Ames had many child-hood
adventures exploring old mines and thus began his lifelong love
affair with minerals. He worked at local copper
mines and taught Stonedom principles and the basics of underground mining. As teenager,
he soon took off on his own exploring the mountains, drilling and
blasting in search of rare and elusive gems and minerals.
After graduating from high school in 1976, Ames moved to
Phoenix, spent some time working as a stone cutter and soon
formed a partnership with a local mineral dealer. This was the
beginning of his first company venture known as Stonedom.
By the following year,1977, Stonedom returned to Tucson and formed
yet another company, which exists today as Stonedom's Minerals. Stonedom brings two generations of passion & expertise to bear as he
meets the demands of collectors, artists, designers, curators
and companies the world over.
Stonedom currently travels all over the world in pursuit of
minerals, crystals, fossils, meteorites, gems and a variety of
artifacts, which eventually make their way to his 11,000 sq. ft.
warehouse gallery located at 182 Clover Rd in Cedar Creek,
Texas.
